My Party in the NYC Part 1

Currently I am in NYC for a meeting tomorrow morning. I just got here at around 7 pm tonight and am leaving around 6 pm tomorrow, so it’s gonna be a very quick trip. I thought that I would describe some of the events that happened today, ’cause I think they were pretty interesting.

1. After around three hours in delays, I finally got to La Guardia airport around six o’clock, exhausted and ready to find my hotel. As I stood at the exit to the airport, retrieving my hotel information, a guy I’ll call Super-sketch Tom approached me, asking if I needed a cab. Me, being the trusting young chap that I am, cheerfully confirmed that I did. As he led me outside I asked him if they took credit cards, and he said, no, no cab company around here does, and he told me that he had a special car company and he should come out to the parking lot with him. I stopped and gave him a quizzical look, and he angrily said “nevermind” and walked back into the terminal. Needless to say, I’m pretty sure he was up to no good. :/

2. After I got away from Super-sketch Tom, I got into a more legit-looking cab, and gave the driver the address of my hotel. From there, I received a crazy ride, one full of tons of honking horns, cutting people off, being cut off, and driving through tunnels that made me think of Princess Diana’s death. We arrived at my hotel a short 45 min and 50 dollars later. (As well as two “Party in the USA” listens over….which I was imagining the words to be “Party in the NYC”) This hotel isn’t just your run-of-the-mill Motel Six, mind you. While it was renovated recently, it reminds me of an shoddily-built house that has a new coat of paint and a new light fixture. Plus, my room is about the size of a double bed, see blow. I reckon it cost about 15 dollars/sq foot haha. But, I believe its most appealing feature is the proximity to the NYC Church of Scientology (maybe I’ll see Tom Cruise?!)

3. I dont understand the point of Times Square

Yes, it’s pretty, but really, all it really is is a ton of flashy advertisements. Hmmmm….capitalism at its best.

My New Favorite Australian TV Show

This show is HILARIOUS- it’s a hidden camera show from Australia called “The Chaser”. These videos are definitely worth watching.

Lil’ Wayne

Lil’ Wayne is ridiculous. Whether that ridiculousness is good or bad remains to be seen, but all I know is that he’s going to jail for around a year, which sucks, because he puts out some good stuff. He’s also a really interesting individual, although he smokes a ton of weed, I’m pretty sure he’s brilliant-at least when it comes to music.

The preface of this documentary piques my curiosity when it writes about how the “real” Lil’ Wayne is never shown in the documentary, but only the character Carter has created. Makes me wonder what Wayne is really like.

In Less than 7 Days, I’ll Know

This semester has been full of uncertainty for me. I came back to Duke sure that I was going to only be in Durham for one semester this year, and spend the first half of 2010 on some crazy adventure. Over the past few months I narrowed my choices down to two main options, and this week I’ll know for sure which one I’ll be commencing come January 2010. It’s been a long three months playing the waiting game, and I’ll be crazy relieved when my plans become a little more concrete, which will happen very, very soon.

I love live music, and I also love country music, so this performance is basically perfect. Live music sounds so much better than recorded, because it simply sounds REAL. For some reason, I love hearing the imperfections in the lead singer’s voice.
